To solidly advance the connotative development of Marxist theory discipline, the School of Marxism at Zhejiang Normal University convened a seminar on high-quality development of Marxist theory discipline construction on April 19 at Room 102, Building 3 of Zhengyang Conference Center. Scholars and discipline leaders from Marxist schools nationwide gathered to discuss the mission, pathways, and innovative directions for Marxist theory discipline construction at Zhejiang Normal University in the new era.
Presided over by Professor WangKun, Dean of the School of Marxism at Zhejiang Normal University, the meeting highlighted that Marxist theory has been recognized as a provincial first-class Category A discipline and a key construction discipline for Zhejiang's priority universities. In recent year's, significant achievements have been made in theoretical research, talent cultivation, and social services. Facing new requirements, the school will use this seminar as an opportunity to refine disciplinary directions, deepen teaching reforms, promote theoretical innovation, and better develop its first-level doctoral program in Marxist theory and master's program in philosophy.
Multiple experts offered valuable suggestions for disciplinary development:
Professor Song Jin from East China Normal University affirmed the school's achievements, emphasizing the need to root discipline construction in “two integrations”, strengthen problem awareness, and deepen the integration of theoretical research with ideological education.
Professor Liu Senlin, Dean of Shandong University's School of Philosophy and Social Development, proposed building disciplinary platforms that produce landmark theoretical achievements and cultivate innovative talents through coordinated development of disciplinary, academic, and discourse systems.
Professor Bai Gang, Dean of Jilin University's School of Philosophy and Sociology, stressed the importance of reinforcing fundamental theoretical construction and enhancing students'ability to study original texts and theoretical analysis.
Professor Zhang Youkui, Vice Dean of Xiamen University's School of Marxism, suggested adopting problem-oriented approaches, enhancing thesis innovation through targeted research, and establishing quantifiable, traceable training mechanisms to integrate theoretical research with practical education.
During discussions, local professors contributed insights: Professor Zheng Xiangfu proposed a three-tier “foundation+specialization+frontier”curriculum system with specialized reading lists for doctoral students. Professor Zhang Genfu emphasized distinctive disciplinary features and coherent training processes. Professor Feng Haoqing warned “weak foundations lead to instability”, prioritizing theoretical grounding. Professor Zhou Zhishan advocated innovative cultivation system's, while Professor Li Xixiang stressed fostering academic interest. Professor Zheng Qing highlighted the importance of research reports.
In concluding remarks, Dean Wang Kun noted the seminar had charted clear development directions and expanded innovative thinking. The school will implement experts'suggestions to optimize talent cultivation programs and elevate disciplinary construction to new heights.
